Gong Qin was gone.

He didn’t take anything with him, didn’t look back, didn’t leave a single trace of regret.

He just left.

He Ling stood frozen in place, feeling as if the house—filled with all their memories—was pressing down on his shoulders.

Gong Qin was never coming back.

He would never see him again.

From this moment on, he had lost him completely.

The person he’d cherished above all else, held so carefully in his hands, given everything he had to love—

Was gone.

In that instant, a tidal wave of regret crashed over He Ling.

Why did he have to push? Why did he have to test him? Why did he insist on driving things to an end, even when he already knew the answer?

Divorce…

He couldn’t accept it!

He Ling shot up, not even bothering to grab his coat, and bolted out the door.

He ran to the garage and saw that Gong Qin hadn’t taken a car. Wearing nothing but a dress shirt, he dashed out into the freezing snow.

He moved quickly, not feeling the cold at all. He was determined to bring Gong Qin back. He wouldn’t let him go. He would never get divorced—not in this lifetime!

He Ling had only gone about two hundred meters when he suddenly stopped in his tracks.

He saw Gong Qin curled up in a dark corner, his whole body shaking.

At that moment, it felt like something inside He Ling shattered and fell to the ground.

His heart clenched. He rushed over and gently lifted Gong Qin up, only to see his face streaked with tears.

There wasn’t a single sound of crying.

Only endless tears streaming from those cold, gray eyes.

It was the first time He Ling had ever seen Gong Qin cry.

His heart ached so much it felt like it might break. He fumbled for words, panicked, “Don’t—don’t…”

Before he could finish, Gong Qin, pale as a ghost, spoke in a trembling voice, “What did I do wrong?”

He Ling was stunned.

Gong Qin’s lips quivered violently, his whole demeanor off. Tears kept falling from his vacant eyes, his voice eerily calm: “Why didn’t you keep your promise?”

He Ling cupped his face, desperately calling his name.

But Gong Qin seemed not to hear him at all. “Why did you fall for someone else? Why do you want a divorce?”

He Ling had always wanted Gong Qin to care about him, but seeing him like this, he wished he could go back and destroy the version of himself that had caused this pain.

Gong Qin looked at him, using the last of his strength to ask, “Why don’t you want me anymore?”
